Communication Access Realtime Translation (CART) is the instantaneous translation of the spoken word into readable text. Often called captioning, this text can be viewed on a mobile device, notebook computer, television monitor, or large screenallowing everyone to read along and participate.
CART is widely used in classrooms, counseling sessions, teleconferences, meetings, seminars, conferences, and trainings, and church services, just to name a few places. CART enables people who are hard of hearing and deaf equal access to fully and actively participate in discussions by reading the text displayed. CART can also be helpful for with improving comprehension for people with processing issues as well as those for whom English is a second language.
For remote CART captioning, an audio feed is taken from a classroom or meeting room and sent to one of our experienced offsite captioners using one of several audio solutions. The captioners then create captions using our captioning application with a stenography machine. These captions are streamed back to the viewer via the internet, providing speech-to-text within seconds.
No, our software is not an app and there is nothing to download. All you need is an internet connection.
For the best results, we need to have a clear audio signal so we can hear what needs to be captioned. We can arrange this in several ways. Most frequently, our clients use a Skype call over a Wi-Fi network to connect. For best results using Skype, we recommend using a Bluetooth microphone such as a Revolabs X-tag, that we can provide.
Once you've confirmed your services, our support team we'll send you a link to your session with a reminder. A few minutes before your session is to begin, click the link and your session will open in your default browser window. Your captioner will chat with you using the chat window to make sure things are working correctly and you are seeing the captions the way you want them.
Our service is accessible through any web-enabled device such as an iPad or other tablet, smartphone, laptop or desktop computer.
Once your session is complete, you will automatically receive an email with a link to view and download the transcript of your session. The transcript is free with your session!
