Certification Descriptions

pic-backtotopCertified CART Provider (CCP) This exam is a written knowledge and skills exam administered by the National Court Reporters Association and is designed to measure the knowledge, skill, and ability of the candidate to produce complete, accurate, simultaneous translation and display of live proceedings utilizing computer-aided translation. 

pic-backtotopRegistered Merit Reporter (RMR) This exam is a written knowledge and skills exam administered by the National Court Reporters Association.  The skills portion consists of 5 minutes of literary material dictated at 200 wpm, jury charge dictated at 240 wpm, and testimony/Q&A dictated at 260 wpm.  Grading is based on the accuracy of the transcripts produced. 

pic-backtotopCertified Realtime Reporter (CRR) This exam is a written knowledge and skills exam administered by the National Court Reporters Association. The skills portion consists of 5 minutes of straight material ranging in speed from 180 to 200 wpm. Grading is based on the realtime output. 

pic-backtotopCertified Broadcast Captioner (CBC) This exam is a written knowledge and skills exam administered by the National Court Reporters Association. The skills exam is not required if the candidate already holds their CRR. This exam is designed to measure the knowledge, skill, and ability of the candidate to produce an accurate, simultaneous translation and display of broadcasts utilizing realtime translation software. 

pic-backtotopRegistered Diplomate Reporter (RDR) This exam is a written knowledge exam administered by the National Court Reporters Association. This is the highest level of certification available to professionals in the field. This exam is designed to test the advanced knowledge and experience of seasoned professionals. 

pic-backtotopRegistered Professional Reporter (RPR) This exam is a written knowledge and skills exam administered by the National Court Reporters Association. The skills portion consists of 5 minutes of literary material dictated at 180 wpm, jury charge dictated at 200 wpm, and testimony/Q&A dictated at 225 wpm. Grading is based on the accuracy of the transcripts produced. 

pic-backtotopCertified Shorthand Reporter (CSR) This exam is a written knowledge and skills exam administered by the National Court Reporters Association. Kansas' exam consists of 5 minutes of jury charge dictated at 180 wpm, medical dictated at 200 wpm, and Q&A dictated at 210 wpm. Grading is based on the accuracy of the transcript produced.
